The journals of the key shaft ride in U-shaped bends in the stamped base plate. There are no real bushings on the key shaft. There's no friction drag adjustment on the keyshaft, other than disassembling it and slightly bending the base plate. They are good quality, but they are a very simple design. However, these tuners are at the low-cost end of their product line. However, I modify them by machining up new special posts and carefully lubricating and setting them.Īs you guys are saying, Schaller is a good company and makes high quality stuff. I have a lot of experience with these specific Schaller tuners, because I use them as replacements when restoring Ampegs, and I use them in my new model Scroll Basses too. ![]() ![]() They are made as direct replacements for the Klusen open gear bass tuners that were on some Fenders, Rickenbackers, and the Ampeg Scroll Basses (my specialty) back in the 1960's. These Schaller tuners are called the "BML" model I'm not sure where that name came from.
